Peer Review Process

Trophos Science of Food is committed to upholding the highest standards of scientific integrity and publication quality. To ensure the validity, relevance, and originality of the research we publish, all submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous and impartial evaluation process.

1. Initial Editorial Assessment (Desk Review)

Upon submission, the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned Editorial Board Member conducts an initial screening of the manuscript. This assessment ensures that the submission:

  • Falls within the aims and scope of Trophos Science of Food.
  • Adheres to the formatting and structural requirements outlined in the Guide for Authors.
  • Demonstrates a baseline level of scientific rigor and original contribution.
  • Passes a similarity check for plagiarism using standard detection software.

Manuscripts that do not meet these fundamental criteria may be rejected at this stage (desk rejection) without being sent for external review, ensuring a rapid decision for the authors.

2. Single-Blind Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment are subject to a strict single-blind peer review process. In this model, the identities of the reviewers are kept strictly confidential from the authors to ensure they can provide honest, objective, and unbiased feedback. However, the reviewers are provided with the names and affiliations of the authors.

  • The editorial team selects a minimum of two independent, external reviewers who are recognized experts in the specific subject area of the manuscript.

3. Reviewer Evaluation

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on its originality, methodological soundness, clarity of presentation, and the significance of the findings to the field of food science and technology. Reviewers provide detailed feedback and recommend one of the following decisions:

  • Accept without revisions
  • Revisions required (minor or major)
  • Resubmit for review
  • Decline submission

4. Final Decision

The Editor-in-Chief (or the handling Editor) makes the final publication decision based on the reviewers' reports. If the reviewers' opinions differ significantly, a third reviewer may be invited to provide an additional assessment. Authors will receive a formal notification of the decision along with the reviewers' anonymized comments.

5. Turnaround Time

Trophos Science of Food strives to provide an efficient and timely review process. While review times can vary depending on the complexity of the topic and reviewer availability, we aim to provide authors with an initial decision within 4 to 6 weeks of submission.
